Macon, There are no side effects when taking St John's Wort with SAMe. They SAMe and St John's Wort actually work very well when taken together. The SAMe is one of the best things you can put in your body. It's great for the liver, depression and arthritis. |

They all operate differently. St. John's inhibits the re uptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine and GABA. 5htp is a precursor to serotonin--meaning that it converts from l-tryptophan into serotonin--meaning that it gives the St. John's more serotonin to work with and for a better idea of how SAM-e works you should go to this link and start clicking on the hyperlinks there to get a better idea of how SAM-e works. Whom ever told you that SAM-e isn't good for depression is wrong. Totally wrong. SAM-e is an excellent treatment for depression. It is also the most natural of all three treatments you mentioned because we make SAM-e in our liver every day. SAM-e is also a very powerful liver detoxifier as well as a great treatment for joint disfunction. It also lowers homocystine levels. Homocystine is a damaging hormone to the heart. SAMe is involved in over 40 biochemical reactions . . . such as methylation, a process critical to the manufacture and maintenance of numerous body components including the feel-good mood neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine. It is also required for sulfur-containing compounds, such as glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that helps fight off toxins in the liver. SAMe is also involved with the manufacture and maintenance of cartilage as well. To date, there are at least 48 clinical trials using SAMe in the treatment of depression. 19 were using SAMe vs. drug control (1,134 patients), 16 open studies uncontrolled (660 patients); 13 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled (537 patients), Harvard researchers conducted 4 of the trials (287 patients). Here is a link to a lot more info. on SAM-e. http://www.hbcprotocols.com/products-SAMe60.html Can all of these depression treatments be taken together? I have taken SAM-e and 5htp together for 4 years now. I also take DMAE (the precursor to the feel good neurotransmitter acetylcholine) and have never felt better. I just take a little of the SJW when I feel i am coming down with a cold or have been exposed to flu germs. But, once again they operate through different pathways so there is no real redundancy. Still, the choice is yours. Talk to your doctor about it. Find out if he knows anything on the subject. Many don't know a thing about SAM-e, 5htp and SJW so its a waste of time but there are a few informed doctors out there. If you find one do us a favor and post his info. here. |

Sounds like a prudent approach. How bad can it be to proceed with the idea that less is more? Then you know what's what. The DMAE, the acetylcholine, is kind of an upper type of feel good neurotransmitter. I take this in the morning. It is like a cup of coffee but it doesn't push your metabolism. it isn't like that. it is more of an "ok, lets sit down and tackle this, kind of cerebral." feeling. I sit down and read the newspaper cover to cover after taking 500 mgs of DMAE every morning. At the other end of the day I take the 5htp as it converts into serotonin. serotohnin is the hormone that calms with the sense that all is good. That when I need it. Others want this during the day. Not me. I like to be up and with it. SAMe works through too many pathways to even go into here. suffice it to say that it is a methylation process critical to the manufacture and maintenance of the feel-good mood neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine. It's also excellent for the liver. Nothing better. |

I am taking 800 SAMe in the morning with ok results. I want to increase my dose but I don't know how because SANE needs to be taken on an empty stomach. How much do you take and can I take more all at one time? Thanks so much. __________________ Laurie Adelman |

Have you used a mouth guard if you are taking too much? I did the same and had to buy a mouth guard. I was grinding/clenching my teeth hardcore and it hurt badly. I did research online and found mouth guards from this company called, TotalGard. I am no longer clenching my teeth and they are no longer wearing down haha...
